Roadside Fire

Hay bales in a field adjacent to a highway caught on fire, started by a spark from a nearby vehicle and encouraged by the very dry conditions prevalent in January.

 

Solution: spread out the hay before hosing it.

Road Side Fire – Flint Hill
On January 16, 2008 at 09:09 hrs companies were dispatched for a road side fire in the 100 Block of Zachary Taylor Hwy.  Brush 1 arrived on scene to find approximately ¼ acre involved next to the road with 14 hay bales also on fire. Chief 1 established Zachary Taylor Hwy Command. Brush 1, Brush 4, and Attack 1 contained and extinguished the field fire. Wagon 1 and Wagon 4 were held for water supply for the brush trucks. Crews unrolled the hay bales with assistance from a local farmer’s tractor and allowed them to burn unrestricted.
